Accessibility
Camille: The Story will be a relaxed run. A Relaxed Environment (RE) is created for audiences who have various access needs that a traditional theatre environment does not accommodate. Before a Relaxed Environment performance, audiences will get a visual story that gives them all the information they need to know for the performance (directions to the theatre, pre-show warnings, etc.)
During a Relaxed Environment performance an audience member can: enter and exit the theatre, move around throughout the theatre, can make noise or sounds, and those who need to keep their phone on will be able to do so as long as it is on silent or on vibrate. Our Relaxed Environment is a Scent Free Environment. Throughout the show, there will be some light over the audience.

Welcome to our second edition of #BeyondTO Festival at TPM! With many thanks to Canada Arts Presentation Fund from Canadian Heritage, we’ve envisioned this festival to be an opportunity to introduce Toronto audiences to artistic offers outside of Toronto that are not only aesthetically compelling and unique but also works that challenge or amplify the conversations our community is currently having.
This year we bring to our stage Canadian artists from Montréal, Quebec in CAMILLE: THE STORY by Audrey-Anne Bouchard & Collaborators and also international artists all the way from Argentina in SOLILOQUIO (I woke up and hit my head against the wall) by Tiziano Cruz. Both of these important and unique pieces ask us to experience story by engaging our senses in a myirad of ways through immersive techniques and a celebratory procession.
Camille is a special, gentle experience of friendship and loss with the wholly unique feel of a day in the life of Montréal. Performed for six audience members at a time, the show replicates in theatre form, an intimacy and an interdependency that Disabled communities would easily recognize and offers the opportunity to introduce audience care through theatrical expression.
Soliloquio starts with a noisy and fun procession of music and dance leading community to TPM, inviting all to participate. Once seated, we are spell bound by the intensity of the text and projection work, and the startling realities and inequities of being Indigenous in Argentina.
These pieces are artistic interruptions that ultimately encourage us to consider the world from a different perspective, in very different ways. Although the works come from away, they reflect humanity back at us, and tell us more about ourselves.

Note from the Director
As a stage artist living with a visual impairment, I experienced challenges and came to realize that the art that we do is a very visual one. My own challenges led me to question myself: what can a person who is blind perceive from a dance or theatre experience? Through my research, many people living with low vision told me that even though they enjoy attending performances, they are always aware that they are missing a part of the experience. The adventure of Camille emerged from the desire to create a show from which the community of people living with low vision would not miss a thing. With a team of interdisciplinary and committed artists in dialogue with the community of people living with low vision, we explored collectively how to create and communicate dance and theatre beyond the visual relationship that prevails amongst audience and performers. We developed a new creative process working with our eyes closed in order to make artistic choices based on tactile, spatial, sonic aesthetics. We revisited our art to propose an experience that is accessible to people who are blind, partially-sighted and sighted. Just like it did for us, we hope that Camille takes you on a journey that awakens your curiosity towards diverse abilities and different ways of perceiving the world.

Cast
Alexandra Laferrière is an actor, performer, and creator based in Montreal. She is a graduate of John Abbott College’s Theatre program and participated in Black Theatre Workshop’s Artist Mentorship Program. Alexandra wishes to develop transformative and challenging work, all with a bit of tongue-in-cheek. Some acting theatre credits include: Dominoes at the Crossroads (Infinitheatre), Virginia Wolf (Geordie Theatre), Simone, Half & Half (Black Theatre Workshop), The West Woods (Mulgrave Road Theatre, Nova Scotia), and Gas Girls (Black Theatre Workshop).
FR: Alexandra Laferrière – PERFORMER
Alexandra est une actrice toujours prête pour une nouvelle aventure. Avec sa grande imagination et son éthique de travail raffinée, elle a gradué avec distinction de son programme de théâtre professionnel au CEGEP John Abbott College, et continue d’enrichir son métier. Elle a travaillé avec plusieurs metteurs-en-scène et compagnies établis à Montréal ainsi qu’à à Toronto, Ottawa, et en Nouvelle-Écosse.
Elle a récemment reçu une nomination pour son interprétation dans la pièce Simone Half & Half (Black Theatre Workshop) au Montreal English Theatre Awards. Elle fait également des apparitions au petit et grand écran en interprétant passionnément des rôles excitants et engageants.
EN: Over the past 10 years, Laurie-Anne Langis has collaborated with several established and emerging artists in Quebec and internationally. Influenced by ancestral practices, she studies healing techniques, meditation, martial arts, voice work and yoga. Interested in inclusive practices, she questions the limits of dance as seen / looked at and develops an interdisciplinary and multisensory approach. Laurie-Anne has created the plays Camille : un rendez-vous au-delà du visuel and Camille : le récit with director Audrey-Anne Bouchard. Moreover, she is trained in audio description and guides dance workshops for people living with visual impairments. Committed, Laurie-Anne also collaborates with several artists on the reappropriation of their bodies and speech.
FR : Depuis une dizaine d’années, Laurie-Anne travaille avec plusieurs artistes émergent.e.s et établi.e.s. Ael performe au Québec et à l’international. Ael étudie des techniques de guérison, la méditation, les arts martiaux, le travail de voix et le yoga.
Interpellée par les projets à vocation inclusive, Laurie-Anne s’interroge sur les limites de la danse qui est vue/regardée et développe une approche trandisciplinaire et multisensorielle. D’ailleurs, ael crée aux côtés d’Audrey-Anne Bouchard, se forme en audiodescription et guide des ateliers de danse pour les personnes vivant en situation de handicap visuel. En quête de vérité et de connexions sensibles, Laurie-Anne tente de laisser place à la pleine expressivité de chacun.e. Engagée, Laurie-Anne travaille sur différents projets autour de la réappropriation de son corps et de sa parole.

He was in the cast of Jeanne Leblanc‘s first film (One Night With You) and the thirteenth edition of Les Zurbains (Théâtre Le Clou). In 2018, he graduated from the École supérieure de théâtre de l’UQÀM where he obtained his degree in theatre studies (playwriting profile, under the supervision of Isabelle Leblanc and Geneviève Billette). In recent years, he has collaborated with the École de travail social de l’UQÀM, Audrey-Anne Bouchard/Au-delà du visuel, Théâtre Témoin, Les Voyagements – Théâtre de création en tournée, the SPEC du Haut-Richelieu, and the MRC Pierre-De Saurel as an actor, playwright, scriptwriter, and cultural worker. He also teaches theatre at the Cégep de Sorel-Tracy.

Lors des dernières années, il collabore notamment avec l’École de travail social de l’UQÀM, Audrey-Anne Bouchard/L’Éclipse collectif, Théâtre Témoin, les Voyagements – Théâtre de création en tournée, la SPEC du Haut-Richelieu et la MRC Pierre-De Saurel que ce soit comme comédien, dramaturge, scénariste ou travailleur culturel. Marijoe Foucher graduated from UQÀM in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in contemporary dance. Since then, she has developed her practice as a performer with several choreographers, including Emmanuel Jouthe, Anne-Flore de Rochambeau, Claudia Chan Tak, and Philippe Dandonneau. These collaborations have led her to perform at various festivals in Quebec and abroad. With a strong interest in interdisciplinarity and dramaturgy, Marijoe accompanies emerging creators as a rehearsal director and creative assistant in the Montreal dance and theatre scene. She is also involved with the company Dans son salon as a performer (Le Troisième été d’amour) and participates in the creation of video dance works. Lately, she has been working with director Audrey-Anne Bouchard and choreographer Laurie-Anne Langis on various Au-delà du visuel creations.
FR: Marijoe Foucher – CHORÉGRAPHE ET PERFORMEUSE
Marijoe Foucher est diplômée au baccalauréat en danse contemporaine de l’UQÀM (2013). Depuis, elle développe sa pratique d’interprète aux côtés de plusieurs chorégraphes, dont Emmanuel Jouthe, Anne-Flore de Rochambeau, Claudia Chan Tak et Philippe Dandonneau. Ces collaborations l’amènent à performer lors de différents festivals tant au Québec qu’à l’étranger. Ayant un fort intérêt pour l’interdisciplinarité et la dramaturgie, Marijoe accompagne des créateurs émergents comme répétitrice et assistante à la création dans le milieu montréalais de la danse et du théâtre. De plus, elle s’implique au sein de la compagnie Dans son salon, comme interprète (Le Troisième été d’amour) et participe à la création d’oeuvres de vidéodanse. Dernièrement, elle travaille avec la metteuse en scène Audrey-Anne Bouchard et la chorégraphe Laurie-Anne Langis à la création d’oeuvres Au-delà du visuel.
Peter is a theatre actor, dramaturg, producer, director and teacher working in Montreal. As a co-founder of the Modern Times Stage Company in Toronto, Peter appeared in most of the productions, including the title roles in Macbeth and Hamlet. He has earned several Toronto Dora nominations and awards for his work with Modern Times. Peter has also worked as an actor in film, TV, and theatre in Montreal both in English and in French. He was nominated for a META award in
2017, and had most recently been seen on the Centaur Theatre stage in Still Life. Peter also writes for theatre and for video and has directed several social documentary films. He currently coordinates the Postmarginal collective, which explores atypical creative practices.
Creative Team
Audrey-Anne Bouchard is an interdisciplinary artist. She completed a BFA in Theatre Design at Concordia University and a Masters degree in Theory and practice of Dance and Theatre at Université de Nice and Université Libre de Bruxelles. Since 2008, she has been working as a lighting designer in the dance and theater sectors in Montreal and internationally. Inspired by her situation as a person living with low vision, she initiated the research project Au-delà du visuel in 2016 to create immersive performances that involve all of the spectator’s senses but sight and that are therefore accessible to people who are blind, partially sighted and sighted. She and her team developed the shows Camille: un rendez-vous au-delà du visuel (2019) as well as Camille: le récit/Camille: The Story (2021-2022), for which she received the META award for Outstanding Direction and the Monique Lefebvre Universal Accessibility Award. With her team, she is now developing a new piece titled Fragments. Audrey-Anne also works as an accessibility consultant for artists and organizations and as a mentor at the National Theatre School of Canada.

Audrey-Anne Bouchard est une artiste interdisciplinaire. Inspirée par sa situation de personne vivant avec un handicap visuel, elle amorce en 2016 le projet de recherche Au-delà du visuel afin de réfléchir à la possibilité de créer et de communiquer la danse et le théâtre pour un public non voyant. Son équipe et elle développent les spectacles Camille : un rendez-vous au-delà du visuel présenté en 2019 au MAI ainsi que Camille : le récit présenté en tournée dans différentes Maisons de la culture de Montréal. Pour Camille, Audrey-Anne reçoit le prix Accessibilité universelle Monique Lefebvre remis par AlterGo à une personne ayant contribué de façon exceptionnelle au déploiement de l’accessibilité de la culture. En tant que consultante, Audrey-Anne est membre du comité d’expertise du Chantier en Accessibilité Universelle de la ville de Montréal et du comité consultatif en accessibilité universelle du Conseil des arts de Montréal. Depuis 2015, elle est aussi mentore en production à l’École nationale de théâtre du Canada.

A 2021 graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada‘s Creation and Production program, Sarah has a keen interest in collective creation and interdisciplinary arts. She joined the Au-delà du visual team through the creation of the piece Camille: le récit / Camille: The Story directed by Audrey-Anne Bouchard. She now discovers Fragments as assistant director. Recently, she also joined the collective Les Bluettes as assistant to Isabelle Bartkowiak on the performance Bon Voyage and in participating in the creation of Psycho-Carotte, a satire inspired by the housing crisis.
FR: Sarah Gagné – ASSISTANTE À LA MISE EN SCÈNE, RÉGIE ET DIRECTION TECHNIQUE
Sarah est une artiste versatile portant un intérêt marqué pour la création collective. Assistante à la mise en scène ainsi que régie de création et de tournée sur plusieurs productions depuis sa sortie de l’École nationale de théâtre du Canada en 2021, sa passion pour les différents métiers de l’art vivant l’amène à soutenir les créations tant à la coordination qu’à la conception. S’étant jointe à l’équipe de la compagnie Au delà du visuel dans une création multisensorielle et spécialement conçue pour un public non voyant, elle assiste la metteure en scène Audrey-Anne Bouchard sur son nouveau spectacle intitulé Fragments. Elle rejoint également le collectif Les Bluettes en participant à la création de Psycho-Carotte, une satire s’inspirant de la crise du logement. À l’automne 2025, Sarah tournera aux côtés de l’équipe de la pièce Cet été qui chantait écrite par Marie-ève Fontaine.

Laurence Gagnon Lefebvre, set designer, aims to create simple and evocative spaces to trigger diverse imaginations. Fascinated by object theatre, she explores the impact of space representation through her designs with a playful lense, always looking for inventive and sensible ways to complete the words. In her mediation work, she supports healing conversations to foster reflection, curiosity, and transformation from emerging artworks. Laurence is interested in cultivating cultural awareness to continue this lifelong process of building an inclusive approach.
Originally from Colombia and now based in Montreal, Diana Uribe has worked for over 25 years in the arts as a set designer, visual artist, and interior decorator. In 2000, she moved to the United States where, along with three other Colombian artists, she created Interrorism, an art movement that denounces violence and injustice in her native country. In 2011, she graduated from the Set Design program at the National Theatre School of Canada. An award-winning set designer working in both French and English, she creates spaces and costumes that evoke a metaphor for our environment. As an artist and a human being, she is aware of the footprint we leave and the importance of engaging in the exploration of ecological materials and renewed theatrical practices. Since 2015, she has been a regular teacher at the National Theatre School.
FR: Diana Uribe – SCÉNOGRAPHE ASSOCIÉE
D‘origine colombienne et maintenant basée à Montréal, Diana Uribe travaille depuis plus de 25 ans dans le milieu des arts en tant que scénographe, artiste plasticienne et décoratrice d’intérieur. En 2000, elle s’installe aux États-Unis où elle crée, avec trois autres artistes colombiens, Interrorism, un mouvement artistique qui dénonce la violence et l’injustice dans son pays natal. En 2011, elle obtient son diplôme du programme de scénographie de l’École nationale de théâtre du Canada. Scénographe primée oeuvrant dans les milieux francophones et anglophones, elle crée des espaces et des costumes qui évoquent une métaphore de notre environnement. En tant qu’artiste et humaine, elle est consciente de l’empreinte que nous laissons et de l’importance de s’engager dans l’exploration des matériaux écologiques et des pratiques théâtrales renouvelées. Depuis 2015, elle est enseignante régulière à l’École nationale de théâtre.
Joseph Browne is a composer, sound designer and audio professional based in Montréal with over 10 years of experience composing soundtracks for stage productions, film and interactive installations. With a degree in electroacoustic composition from Concordia University, he maintained an active presence at his alma mater, working as associate researcher and technical coordinator of the Matralab until 2020. In 2015 Joseph was awarded Undergraduate Research Award funding to develop spatial audio methods for performance. His sound design for theatre was nominated several times for Montreal English Theatre Awards (META) in 2016 and 2018 and 2022. Joseph now works as an interactive audio developer and Moment Factory and continues to actively collaborate on many interesting projects in Montreal and abroad.
Rob Denton is a Montreal bred and based sound mixer, designer and composer. Highlights include a META (Montreal English Theatre Award) for sound design for Another Home Invasion in 2016. In 2023 he received a META for sound design of Tribes! No Matter What. In 2007, he was awarded Best Sound MECCA (Montreal English Critic’s Circle Award) for his work on the Montreal presentation of Satchmo’ Suite at the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts. His design for Small MouthSounds was named “Sound Design of the Decade” by Broadway World Magazine – Montreal. In 2021, he joined the Au-delà du visuel team in the small audience adaptation of Camille : le récit/Camille : The Story.
Étienne Mongrain is a graduate of the 2012-2016 cohort of the Option-théâtre program at Collège Lionel-Groulx in theatrical production, stage management, and technical profile. Since his graduation, Étienne has been working as a technical director/production and stage manager on various projects. He worked in 2017 as tour manager and stage manager for La Comédie Humaine (De Gélinas à Mouawad en passant par Tremblay), as touring technical director and sound operator for Théâtre Le Clou (Les Zurbains 2017, Le Scriptarium 2019), as touring technical director and sound operator for the Théâtre Le Clou (I Am William), and as technical director on Audrey-Anne Bouchard/Au-delà du visuel projects. He is currently the technical
director at Théâtre Le Clou and co-artistic director of Collectif d’éphémères.
Maurice Roy worked as an actor and a director for some 20 years before moving on to translating. His translation work includes 18 plays to English and 7 plays to French. His translation of Shakespeare’s Love’s Labours Lost was nominated for a Masque award from the Académie Québécoise des masques. Since 1995, he has also coached both English- and French-speaking actors and performers helping them with pronunciation.
FR: Maurice Roy – COACH DE DICTION
Maurice Roy a travaillé comme acteur et metteur en scène pendant plus de vingt ans avant de se tourner vers la traduction. Il a traduit plus de 18 pièces en anglais et 7 pièces en français. Sa traduction de Shakespeare’s Love’s Labours Lost a reçu une nomination de l’Académie Québécoise des masques. Depuis 1995, il coach la prononciation et la diction à des acteurs anglophones et francophones.
Based in Tiohtiá:ke / Mooniyang / Montreal, Alexis Diamond is a theatre artist, opera and musical librettist, translator, dramaturg and theatre curator working in both English and French. She creates works for a wide range of audiences, from toddlers, to school-aged children, to all ages, to adults only, which have garnered awards, residencies, and attention at home and abroad. Playful, poetic and profound, her texts and performances break open the stories we inherit and the myths we perpetuate to spark some kind of collective epiphany. Alexis has translated award-winning plays by Pascal Brullemans, Alexia Bürger, Marie-Hélène Larose-Truchon, Érika Tremblay-Roy and Marie-Claude Verdier for companies such as Geordie Theatre, Le Petit Théâtre de Sherbrooke, DynamO Theatre, Talisman Theatre, Theatre Direct, Théâtre Incliné, Bouche Theatre Collective and Playwrights Canada Press. She also serves as mentor for Traductions Croisées, a joint project run by Playwrights’ Workshop Montréal and the CEAD (Centre des auteurs.trices dramatiques). Alexis was a finalist for the 2020 Governor General’s Award for her translation of Pascal Brullemans’ plays for young audiences, Amaryllis and Little Witch (Playwrights Canada Press).

Alexis Diamond a suivi des études en création littéraire à l’Université Concordia et a obtenu une maîtrise en études anglaises de l’Université de Montréal. Fière montréalaise, elle est autrice (Nzinga, avec Marie-Louise Bibish Mumbu et Tatiana Zinga Botao; Faux-amis, avec Hubert Lemire), librettiste (Signs of Life, avec Tim Brady), commissaire et traductrice (entre autres pour Pascal Brullemans, Érika Tremblay-Roy, Marie-Claude Verdier, Marie-Hélène Larose-Truchon, Alexia Bürger et pour différentes compagnies). Sa traduction anglaise de Amaryllis & Little Witch, texte de Pascal Brullemans, est finaliste pour le prix littéraire du Gouverneur général du Canada en 2020. À son actif, on compte des pièces de théâtre, des comédies musicales et des livrets d’opéra pour publics jeunes et adultes ainsi que des performances-installations avec des artistes internationaux. Par ailleurs, Alexis Diamond est montée sur scène à l’occasion de deux prises de paroles collectives (Jusqu’où te mènera Montréal ? et Jusqu’où te mènera l’avenir ?, Jamais Lu et Théâtre Aux Écuries). Alexis siège au conseil d’administration du Conseil québécois du théâtre.
