We create alternative theatre — created for and with an audience, examining the marginal, the unexplored and the unforeseen.
We are located in the heart of Toronto, near the Queen street West/Bathurst intersection. Theatre Passe Muraille is a historic building (the former Nasmith Bakery and Stables) that has been renovated into an intimate theatre space. Since 1968, this building has produced some of Canada’s most iconic experimental and alternative shows.
The neighbourhood is vibrant with restaurants and cafés along Queen street west, so you can plan a great night out when you come see a show!
Upcoming digital production
Toka by Indrit Kasapi
Toka tells the story of siblings who wrestle with a long-standing land dispute that has resulted in generational death after death, and is threatening to come to a brutal climax. This startling work of physical theatre about modern-day blood feuds in post-Communist Albania, is delicate, evocative and heart-breaking.
Over 700 new Canadian plays have been created inside our theatre
Theatre Passe Muraille (TPM) is Canada’s original alternative theatre company based in Toronto — Founded in 1968, TPM is currently developing and producing new Canadian plays. TPM is striving to articulate a distinct Canadian voice that reflects the complexity of our intercultural society.
